Girls Varsity Lacrosse vs. FALMOUTH ACADEMY, MA

Game Date
May 4, 2017
Score
: 12
FALMOUTH ACADEMY, MA: 18

Yesterday the Varsity and JV squads faced the Falmouth Academy Mariners at Falmouth Academy. It was a beautiful afternoon to play and the turnout from the fans was a amazing!

The Varsity was up first, and things did not look so hot at first; FA scored 3 goals within the first minute and a half of the game! The onslaught continued until Senior Rachel Kilduff battled back with a goal for West. At half-time the score was 15-2 FA and things looked grim. But after a serious pep talk at half time and some changes in positioning the Navigators set sail and started putting the ball in the Mariner's net. On the attack, Captain and Senior Brigid Morrison got a hat trick for West with 5 assists and her little sister, Freshman Ciara Morrison followed suit with a hat trick of her own. Captain and Senior Sarah Walman had also scored 3 times for West with 2 assists! Freshman Sophie Cook "cooked 'em" with two goals of her own. Seniors Danielle Gavin and Chloe Bass and Junior Olivia Noonan worked relentlessly to push an attack for West. Midfielders Sinead Dolan, Sarah Gavin (birthday girl), and Aradia Jacobson worked tirelessly to transition the ball up the field, fight for ground balls, and force turnovers. On the defensive end, Tall Bri Sigel led the defense with 8 saves in net and amazing clears to midfield. Senior Julianna Foresteire and Gabriella Boucher worked with Juniors Kerry O'Brien and Isabella Sweeney to put a blockade on the Mariners and they were only able to score 3 goals in the second half!  The final score was 18-12 FA, we are now 3-3. Overall, it was a great game, especially once we hit our stride.

Next up, the JV hit the pitch with Junior Katelyn Coughlin in net with 5 saves for the Navs. Center Emma Navarro worked hard on the draw to gain possession and work the ball down the field. Jenna Ellis kept pointing her rudder at the Mariners' net putting 2 in for the Navigators! Riley Niederberger, Bella Harrington, Anya Ghai, and  Krysta Dolan worked hard on transitions and fought to get the ball back into our offensive end. The mighty defense, Mackenzie Yuska, Emily O'Brien, Mariah Johnson, Kitty Bova, and Alyssa McLean worked hard to cover open players and slow the attack from the Mariners. The final score was 11-2 FA.  The JV held their own against a second string varsity team and should be proud of themselves for how well they played and how much they have improved!
